FRY CLUB COLTS          3

THORNBURY                 2

Our first home game for 2006 having had a two week break. An improvement was needed from our last game.

Despite the absence of both James Hurrell Smith and Nathan Dawson, we had a strong 13 man squad strengthened by the transfer of James ‘pitball’ Parsons from Broadwalk. Although we had a strong opening, controlled passing and good movement, we found ourselves 2 – 0 down after 20 minutes through our own mistakes. Our patience and concentration though proved far better in this game and our continued pressure and dominance soon paid off with Craig Andrews pulling a goal back just before half time. This followed several good chances that both Craig and Brad Monelle created only stopped by good goal keeping and the posts!

The second half started with continued pressure and from a great long ball from James Boulton through Mo Bouaziz in Midfield, Brad Monelle found himself one on one with the Thornbury goal keeper and this time he made no mistake to level the scores at 2 – 2 just 5 minutes into the second half. By now both Mo and Oli Randall were proving very strong in the centre of Midfield, bringing Jordan Knight and Dean Lapham into the game out on the wings. However, the next 20 minutes were to be frustrating as the Thornbury keeper time and again held and stopped every shot put to him. 7 minutes from time though gave us a great opportunity. The ball was played out wide left to substitute James Parsons and from his great run his shot rebounded off the inside of the near post into the path of Brad Monelle who slotted in the well deserved winner.

This really was a show of great character from the whole squad to come back from 2 down to deservedly earn all 3 points. Another great performance which gives us a great foundation for the tough games that are still to be played.

Once again, how do we choose Man of the Match from a great team performance? Several notable performances from Danny McCarthy, Oli Randall, Mo Bouaziz, Kyle Curtis and our 2 strikers Brad and Craig. However, the award today went to a no nonsense performance from James Boulton who had an inspiring game both in left Midfield and at Sweeper.
